What is environmental DNA?
Environmental DNA (eDNA) is genetic material that organisms shed into their environment through skin cells, mucus, or decaying biological matter. This DNA can be collected from environmental samples such as water, soil, air, or ice and analyzed to identify the presence of species in an ecosystem without the need for direct observation or physical capture.
This enables eDNA to be used as a non-invasive, cost-effective, more efficient technology/method for detecting and tracking the presence of organisms in different environments.
By collecting environmental samples, we analyze the eDNA to identify the presence of organisms, offering a comprehensive understanding of the biodiversity in the area.
How it works?
1. Sample
The samples are collected by our team of experts in the field and then transported to the lab.
Future process:
A comprehensive sampling kit is delivered to your address. Collect the environmental samples and return them to us, or we can do the sampling for you if needed.
2. Lab analysis
Our laboratory experts process the samples.
3. Reporting
Comprehensive report with results and interpretation is delivered to you by email. Our experts are available for involvement in a discussion regarding the results and the next steps to take.
Future process:
The results, along with the professional interpretation are delivered online through our secured app.
4. Biobank
Sample is stored in our biobank for reference and future re-analysis and comparisons.
